AI aquarium monitoring · No hardware to buy
Your spare phone,a 24/7 tank keeper
Keepova turns a spare phone into an AI tank keeper that understands aquariums. If the power goes out, a pump stops or your fish start gasping at the surface, you hear about it right away. When you’re out, you can check on the tank any time.
Works on Android 6.0 and later · iPhone version coming soon
Possible power outage
The phone’s battery should last about 6 more hours. Check the outlet.
The filter may have stopped
We haven’t heard the filter running for 3 minutes.
All clear
Pump running · checked 10 min ago
All good for the past 24 hours
The tank phone is running normally, and the morning check found nothing unusual.
Up and running in three steps
No camera to buy and no networking know-how needed. Set it up in a few minutes, then let it keep watch.
Place it by the tank
Install Keepova on a spare phone and choose “Watch the tank”. Plug in the charger and use a stand to point the camera at your aquarium.
Scan to pair
Open the same app on your everyday phone and scan the QR code on the spare phone’s screen. Follow the prompts to outline the tank, then unplug the charger once to try a test alert.
Get alerts on your phone
When something goes wrong, your phone gets a notification that says what happened and what to do now. Tap it to see the live view.
It knows aquariums, not just “something moved”
An ordinary camera only tells you the picture changed. Keepova combines power status, sound and cloud AI to spot what really matters in a fish tank.
Alerts
Sent to your phone and your family’s the moment something happens. Alerts are graded by urgency, and the same problem won’t keep pinging you.
Power cut
Alerts within seconds of the charger losing power. The tank phone keeps working on battery and estimates how long it can last.
Pump or air pump stopped
Keepova first learns how your tank sounds when everything is running, then alerts you when the filter or air pump stops and the background hum disappears.
Possible gasping or dead fish
Cloud AI checks on your fish and confirms again a few minutes later to cut down false alarms.
Device offline
If the tank phone stops checking in for a long time (say the router lost power too), the cloud lets you know.
Phone overheating
Battery temperature is monitored continuously. If the phone runs hot, Keepova scales back its work and reminds you to deal with it.
Cloudy water or blocked view
You’re told to take a look if the water turns noticeably cloudy, or if the phone gets knocked, the lens is blocked or it fogs up.
Helpful every day, too
AI care · Take a look
Regular AI checks while the lights are on. Curious how the tank is doing? Tap “Take a look” and the AI checks right away and tells you what it sees.
Live view
Open a low-latency live view at home, at work or on the road, and take screenshots. At night you can turn on the flashlight remotely for a look.
Daily all-clear report
A short summary every day, such as “All clear for the past 24 hours”, with a thumbnail of the tank. If it doesn’t arrive, you know it’s time to check.
Maintenance mode
Turn it on before a water change or filter clean and alerts pause. When you’re done, Keepova re-checks and tells you right away if a pump wasn’t plugged back in.
Detection results are for reference only. False alarms and missed alerts can happen, and you can mark any alert as a false alarm with one tap. Visual detection is limited once the lights are off, so at night Keepova relies mainly on power and sound detection.
A camera in your home? Privacy comes first
Keepova only cares about your aquarium. These protections are on by default, with nothing extra to set up.
Only the area you outline
During setup you outline the tank, and everything outside it is masked before any image is uploaded. The detection area never expands on its own.
Raw audio stays on the phone
The microphone analyzes pump and water sounds locally on the tank phone. Raw audio is never uploaded or stored; only detection results are sent.
Encrypted in transit
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Live view uses an encrypted WebRTC channel, and the tank phone shows a notice on screen while someone is watching.
Not used for training by default
Your images aren’t used to train models unless you explicitly opt in under Settings, and you can withdraw at any time.
No 24/7 uploading: images are uploaded only when something looks wrong, during scheduled checks or when you choose to look. Event images are deleted automatically when they expire, and you can delete them yourself at any time.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy a camera or other hardware?
No. A spare phone, a phone stand and a charger are all you need. Install the same app on your everyday phone to receive alerts and watch the tank.
Which old phones work?
Android phones need Android 6.0 or later. iPhones need iOS 15 or later (iPhone 6s and newer); the iPhone version is coming soon. The camera, microphone and Wi-Fi just need to work. The tank phone has to stay plugged in with the app running in the foreground.
Does it upload video all the time? Will it use a lot of data?
No. The tank phone runs lightweight analysis locally and only uploads snapshots or short clips when something looks suspicious, during scheduled checks or when you choose to look. There is no 24/7 uploading. Video streams continuously only while you have the live view open.
Will I still get alerts during a power cut?
Keepova does its best to get the alert through. The tank phone keeps running on its own battery and reports the outage immediately. If the router loses power too, a phone with a SIM card switches to mobile data; without a SIM card, the cloud sends a “Device offline” alert once it has stopped receiving heartbeats for a while. We recommend plugging the tank phone’s charger into the same power strip as your filter.
What problems can it detect? Will there be false alarms?
Currently: power cuts, stopped pumps or air pumps, possible gasping fish, possible dead fish, device offline, phone overheating, cloudy water and a blocked view. AI findings are confirmed again a few minutes later to reduce false alarms, but false alarms and missed alerts can still happen. You can mark any alert as a false alarm with one tap, which helps detection get more accurate over time.
Does it work at night with the lights off?
Visual detection is limited once the lights are off, so at night Keepova relies mainly on power and sound detection, which run around the clock. You can turn on night flash checks in Settings (off by default): the tank phone briefly turns on its flashlight at intervals to check the tank, though this startles the fish for a moment. The results of the morning check after the lights come on are included in the daily all-clear report.
Is it safe to keep a phone plugged in next to an aquarium?
Keeping a phone plugged in long term calls for some care. The app monitors battery temperature, scales back and alerts you if the phone gets too hot, guides you to turn on the system’s built-in charging protection, and reminds you once a month to check the battery for swelling. Use a sturdy stand, keep the phone away from the water, don’t charge it on the tank lid, and leave a drip loop in the power cable.
How much does it cost?
There is a free plan with basic detection, alerts and live view. A subscription with more AI checks and longer image storage will come later; pricing and benefits will be as described in the app.
Can it completely replace checking on the tank myself?
No. Keepova is a helper that sends reminders. It doesn’t replace looking after your tank yourself, or professional aquarium, veterinary or electrical services. If you keep valuable fish or will be away for a long time, arrange for someone to check in person as well.
